Tour Yunnan starts from Yunnan Nationalities Village
THE ZHUANG VILLAGE

With a population numbering 1.14 million, most of the Zhuang minority people of Yunnan Province live in compact communities in Wenshan Prefecture. In most cases, villages of the Zhuang minority people are constructed on water-side mountain slopes. The rice-farming Zhuang people worship the “Solar God”, esteem the presbyters, deem the bronze drum as a sacred ritual instrument, as well as show fervent love for silver ornaments, and they are exceptionally skillful in cooking colored rice. The hospitable Zhuang people are also good at singing and dancing.

Stepping into the Zhuang Village, the first thing visitors see is the “dragon pole” for worshiping the “dragon king”, and on both sides of the pole are replicas of the “cliff painting of the Heavenly King” painted by the Zhuang ancestors and the “pavilion of the Stone Gourd”. According to a Zhuang legend, the pavilion was constructed to commemorate the stone gourd which helped the Zhuang ancestors to weather hardships induced by devastating floods. On both sides of the square are replicas of the Haotian Pavilion for worshiping the Jade Emperor and a giant bronze drum for dispelling evils and ushering happiness. Other components of the Zhuang Village include the railing style houses (included ganlan and malan). The “lovers’ corridor” for the Zhuang youths to relax or court one another.  The “pavilion for the aged” where the Zhuang seniors confer on important issues, the dragon trees, the Sanqi (notoginseng) plantations, the unique “rain-sheltering bridge” and the ever-turning waterwheel, all of which weave into a lyric panorama of the Zhuang-inhabited rural areas.
